For more than 160 years, the world's most famous pianists have expressed their appreciation for the inspiring and unmistakable sound that a Steinway piano offers them. The Steinway Artists family has representatives in every musical genre, from classical and jazz to musical theater and pop.

But the exceptional pleasure of playing and owning a Steinway isn't just for the professional musician. On the contrary, fun applies to anyone who shares a passion for music and a soft spot for extremely refined craftsmanship and durability.

What makes Steinway upright and grand pianos so unique is the passion with which they are made. Machines are only used when it’s known with certainty that they are more precise than people. But the focus still remains largely on traditional craftsmanship with subtle attention to every detail and using only the very best materials. At Steinway & Sons they are convinced that this is the only way to guarantee the inimitable quality of their famous Steinway pianos.

The fact that they respect these traditional values in their workshop does not mean that they are not innovative, SPIRIO is a great example of this.

It takes more than a year to manufacture a Steinway because every step is done in quiet consultation and with the utmost care. Before the high-quality wood is used for production, it must dry and mature for two years. Only then is the wood in perfect condition to shape the sound box, the soundboard, the vocal bar and the lid.

The sound box consists of 20 layers of maple and mahogany wood, which are glued together in a single operation on a metal mold.

Did you know that a Steinway & Sons grand piano consists of more than 12,000 individual parts? No two Steinway pianos are identical, which is in large part thanks to the extensive artisan work, the long expertise of the employees and the use of only high-quality material.

The technician who controls the sound harmonization is also very decisive for the individual timbre of each instrument. He works each hammer head with great diligence until the typical Steinway sound is achieved.

A piano with an exceptional character!
